2015 Mileage Rates

Effective January 1, 2015, the Standard Mileage Rates are revised as follows:

  • Business Rate = 57.5 cents per mile (up from 56 cents)
  • Medical and Moving Rate = 23 cents per mile (down from 23.5 cents)
  • The Charitable Rate remains unchanged at 14 cents

IRS Online Payment System Now Available for 1040s

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced the successful start of its new web-based system - IRS Direct Pay - on IRS.gov, which lets taxpayers pay their tax bills or make estimated payments directly from checking or savings accounts without any fees or pre-registration.

IRS Tax Tip: Five Easy Ways to Spot a Scam Phone Call

From the IRS:  The IRS has issued a consumer alert providing taxpayers with tips to protect themselves from telephone scam artists calling and pretending to be with the IRS. These callers may demand money or may say you have a refund due and try to trick you into sharing private information. These con artists can sound convincing when they call. They may know a lot about you, and they usually alter the caller ID to make it look like the IRS is calling. They use fake names and bogus IRS identification badge numbers. If you don't answer, they often leave an "urgent" callback request.

IRS Delays Start of 2014 Tax Filing Season

The IRS plans to open the 2014 filing season on January 13, 2014 for Business Tax Returns, and on January 31, 2014 for Individual Tax Returns.  The 16-day government closure in October 2013 made it necessary for the IRS to delay the original opening dates to allow adequate time to program and test its tax processing systems.
